7:37 PM                      Call to Order; Wes Motschmann

7:38 PM                      Sue Heng was introduced as the new Secretary for DASL.

Minutes received and reviewed for the August 14, 2002 meeting. Hans noted a correction was needed; the correction being that the new team “Kickin’ Grass” was incorrectly noted as “Grass Kickers”. Hans moved the minutes be accepted with his correction, motion passed.

7:45 PM                      League Reports

Disciplinary Chairmen’s Report; Hans Rothkehl

Hans reported 1 red and 3 yellow cards were issued on during the first round of games.

Operations Report; Wes Motschmann

Wes stated there was nothing to report this month.

Registrar/Treasurer Reports; Pam Blessington

Pam reported that team fees have only been turned in by the cities of San Ramon and Walnut Creek. All other cities still need to turn in their fees. Rosters and waivers are also still needed from those who have not turned their in.

7:51 PM                      City Rep Reports

Danville, Karl Thomas

Karl reported that the Danville Devils officially folded. Most players have been picked up by other teams.

Danville requested that every team representative provide at least one reliable contact number. It was noted that this information should be up to date on the web site. A suggestion was made that an alternate form of contact be listed as well (e-mail, cell phone etc) to ensure contact can be made at times when it is critical.

San Ramon, Mike Dunne

Mike had nothing to report. Hans stated that there was one issue; the division A San Ramon team had voiced a concern with having to pay for a third referee (split the cost of) when playing a Danville division A home team. The issue was resolved for this season but the concern was worthy of being noted and revisited in the future.

Walnut Creek, Linda Zoccoli

Linda stated that 2 fields (4 field / time slots) are set for this season. They were unable to locate a 5th field / time slot, therefore, 4 game times had to have date changes.

The city of Walnut Creek had a change of guard. The new guard does not like the concept of providing field usage to adults, especially adults that are not residents of Walnut Creek. This poses a problem for field availability next season. This topic will be discussed further during Member’s Concerns.

Orinda, Audrey Lawrence

Audrey stated there was nothing to report.

8:00 PM                      Old/Unfinished Business

Karl reported that the exploratory committee for the city of Danville has decided that Danville will remain a part of DASL for this season. The idea of splitting off and forming a different league had been discussed due to some field and referee reliability issues within DASL.

8:13PM                       New Business

None

8:14PM                       Members Concerns

Wes voiced a strong concern with his ability to create play schedules under the current procedure. There were communication issues which left him with only a few days to finalize and present the schedule. He recommended the following change to the current procedure; the “scheduler” for the city should provide a list of date and time slots available for the season to Wes at the meeting one month prior to the start of the season. Wes will then assign the teams to those slots.

It was also proposed that an ad-hoc scheduling meeting occur prior to the regularly scheduled 1st meeting of the season meeting to provide more time for this process.

Something to consider is the possibility that games may have to be scheduled for times other than 9:00 and 11:00. These time constraints can make scheduling difficult.

Wes brought up that there was still a referee problem this last week. One Walnut Creek game had to be forfeited due to a no-show referee. This is a serious problem that needs to be rectified.  Linda stated that this was a fluke that should not happen again this season. The referee in question had reported his being unavailable to attend his second game of the day but then unexpectedly did not show for his first as well.

Walnut Creek is considering merging with another city. Between the change in guard not wanting to provide fields for adult leagues, the cost of fields increasing 2 ˝ times the historical cost, the reduced services for the fields (lining etc) and the referee issues being experienced it has become increasingly difficult for Walnut Creek to meet the needs of providing a home field. This topic will continue to be discussed in future meetings.
